Slow cooker onion soup

Hello again! Long time, no see! I didn't plan out to take such a long break, but all of a sudden it's December and I haven't posted since September. There's no big reason behind my break, I just simply didn't find the time to sit in front of my computer and write a new post. Also, taking photos while cooking can be quite challenging, and I often found myself too focused on cooking that I forgot to take photos for the blog. But finally, here I am, ready to share with you one of my all-time favorite recipes: onion soup.  Onion soup is not just one of my favorite dishes, but also one I associate with the Holiday season. So, since Christmas is upon us, I thought it would be really fitting. As far as I'm concerned, onion soup originated in Paris, France, but it has expanded to several European countries. Each country seems to have its own version of this dish, so I'm simply going to share the way I make it, which isn't necessarily "the Spanish version...

Slow cooker roasted chicken

Hello again! Long time, no see. I haven't posted in a while on this blog because not just I haven't been very inspired to do so, but also life got in the way. If you read my main blog you probably already know that I've had furniture to assemble and other stuff to take care of. But, I don't want to bore you with that, so let's get into the food. I don't know about you, but in summer I feel less inspired to cook, specially complex dishes that require a lot of preparation. One of those recipes I rely on during the hottest months is this slow cooker chicken that requires barely any preparation or attention, so I can go about my day. I make it for two people, and we have plenty for lunch, but you can make more, or even add potatoes, if you feel you won't have enough food. This recipe is so easy to tailor to your own needs.  Ingredients: Chicken leg quarters (hindquarters), or any other part of the chicken you like.  Italian seasoning. Pepper. Olive oil. Lemon ju...

Slow cooker pork cheek (carrillera)

Image
Carrillera o carrillada is a delicious meat obtained from the cheeks of an animal, usually beef or pork. It's a quite greasy meat, and very tender when cooked properly. It wasn't until I started doing some research for this post that I have realized that it's not a very common thing to eat in other countries. For what I've seen, in France there's a dish called joue boeuf that, judging by the photos I've seen, must be delicious. I guess both dishes share some similarities, but I'm not very familiar with French cousine , so, if you are, let me know in the comment section. There are many ways you can cook the carrilleras and many recipes out there. Mine is quite simple, and you just need a handful of ingredients. Since it's a type of meat that needs quite a long cooking time, I feel like slow cookers are perfect for it. Anyway, with any further ado, let's get into the cooking. Ingredients: 5-6 pieces of pork cheek (you can use beef). 1 onion. 1 potato ...

Slow cooker tomato soup

Image
Tomato soup has quickly become one of my favorite dishes to make. Whether its summer or winter, this soup always tastes delicious. It's fairly simple to make, and you just need a few ingredients, which is always a bonus.  Tomato soup is popular in a wide rage of countries, so I would almost consider this a "global dish". Don't confuse this soup with Spanish gazpacho , which is a cold soup made with tomatoes and red bell pepper, along with other ingredients. In the future I'll try to make a gazpacho post, but today let's focus on this yummy tomato soup. Ingredients: 1,5 kg of pear tomatoes. 1 onion 1 celery 300 ml of water Salt Pepper Olive oil Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon of concentrated tomato (optional). 1 teaspoon of sugar (to avoid the soup being too acid).  Servings: 3-4 Cooking time: 4 hours Temperature: High Preparation time: between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on how quick you are peeling tomatoes. Peel and dice your tomatoes and put them inside yo...
